Gears of War: Season 1

Welcome to the new GameNation and our inaugural season of the GameNation eSports League (GEL). We are excited to announce our first season, featuring Epic Games’ latest title, Gears of War 3. The season will begin with a launch tournament taking place over the first two weekends that the game is out, and that will culminate in our first ever Gears of War season, which will feature an Invite division with the top teams from our Launch Tournament, and feature some of the biggest names in the game’s history.
If you don’t qualify for the Invite division, there will also be an Open division featuring multiple tournaments where players can play and earn seeding points for a final “Up and Down” qualification tournament where Open teams can earn their way into the Invite division and Invite teams will drop down to Open for Season 2.

We are proud to announce our Gears of War 3 launch tournament, First Foray! This tournament will be capped at 128 teams, and will serve a few purposes. First, we want to use this event as testing to help find the best settings from launch for Gears of War. We will work as a team on the first week and come up with some settings to start, and get feedback on what you think would be best moving forward. Second, we want to use this as something for everyone to get some good practice in a free tournament and start to work out who you want on your team, and working together because this will only be the first of many we do.
Also, this event will help qualify you for our GN Season 1 for Gears of War 3. Season 1 will be comprised of two leagues, the Invite and the Open league. The GoW 3 Launch Event will help qualify at least four (4) teams for our invite tournament. It will also seed teams for our open events as well.
This event is open to everyone geographically.

Rules
RULE #1: FAIR PLAY.
Put simply, don’t do something against the spirit of fair competitive play. If you’d be upset if what you’re doing would happen to you, don’t do it.
Roster Rules:
- Teams will be allowed to roster 4 players.
- Teams will be controlled by the designated team leader, except for a special case listed below.
- Teams will only be able to play with their designated roster with the gamertags listed on the team list, no substitutions allowed unless specifically mentioned in the event specific rules.
- Rosters for events will be locked af the end of registration, and will be unlocked when your team is eliminated from the tournament.
Check In/Match Start:
- Matches must be played at their scheduled time, unless a reschedule is approved by the tournament director.
- Teams have 10 minutes from the scheduled match time to have their entire roster ready. Only players listed on the roster page for that team are elgible to play. Teams will not be considered complete if attempting to use an inelgible player. Games cannot start short handed, teams must have a full team to begin. If a team of elgible players are not on and ready to play within 10 minutes, the incomplete team will forfeit.
- Teams will be allowed a 5 minute break between maps if requested.
Drop Policy:
- If a player drops, the round will be able to be completed short handed. The disconnected player may reconnect once the current round has ended.
- If a team exits the game
- If a player has not rejoined at the end of the current map, or leaves between maps, they will be given 5 minutes to return and ready up. If they do not return within the 5 minute time period, the team with the dropped player will forfeit the map, and will be given another 5 minutes until either the match is forfeited, or the player returns.
Host Policy:
- The team listed on top of the bracket fixture will host the first map. For host on the tiebreaker map, the team that has won the most cumulative rounds will host the final map. If round counts are tied, the team that is listed higher on the bracket will host the tiebreaker, unless otherwise specified in event specific rules.
- Teams may select any player on their squad to host their maps.
- If the map has incorrect settings that adversely impacts gameplay, the team that discovers the incorrect settings shall gather proof, and exit the game. PROOF MUST BE GATHERED AND SUBMITTED OR THE MAP WILL BE FORFIETED. Upon proof submission, one of the following shall occur.
- – If the hosting team is ahead or the map is tied, and the map has not reached game point, the map shall be restarted.
- – If the hosting team is behind, and the map has not reached game point, the map may be haulted and restarted with correct settings, however the score from the map prior to the restart will carry over.
- If the host ends a map prior to it’s conclusion during a valid map, the hosting team will forfeit that map.
- A team may request a lag test for the first map their opponent is hosting, which is required to be given by the hosting team. A lag test is one round on a map not in that round’s rotation, to see if host is acceptable. Only 2 lag tests per match, per team must be granted. Once an acceptable host is found, that host must be used in the remainder of that team’s hosted maps. No lag test is permitted on the final map.
- Any map that is played to completion is not disputable. If there is an issue found, players must gather proof, and exit the game prior to completion. Exemptions to this rule may be granted if there is an issue on the final round, subject to the Tourney Director’s discretion. (Example, dispute for a player using an incorrect starting weapon/host setting is not disputable once the match ends, however a dispute for a player glitching in the final round is disputable even if the match ends.)
Cheating/Glitching:
- Any exploitation of the game that gives an unfair advantage to a team is not allowed. This includes, but is not limited to cheating, glitching, and lag switching. Proof will be required to overturn a map, and must be submitted on conclusion of the map. If map is excessively lagging, upon map conclusion proof can be submitted, and a replay of the map with a different host may be granted, subject to decision of Tourney Director.
Match reporting:
- Match scores must be reported by both team captains after the match concludes. Winner, and map count must be reported, along with any proof.
Proof:
- Proof will be required to report a match, as well as for any dispute. Below is a list of things proof is required for, as well as what type of proof will be accepted.
No-Show/Short handed team – Admin verification
Incorrect host settings – Video/Picture
Cheating/Glitching – Video/Picture (picture must clearly show the glitch/cheat, subject to decision of Tourney Director)
Excessive Lag/Lag Switch – Video only.
Match reporting – Video/Picture
All issues are subject to the decision of the Tourney Director. Rules subject to change.
Additional Match Rules
Teams must show up at the default match time, unless the match is schedule with an admin to be played in advance (when possible).
If teams cannot make the default match time for the first round, they must give notification at least 2 hours in advance, so we can find a replacement, or try to reschedule within the time frame before the next match.
If a team does not show up for a match without notification, the following sanctions will be levied:
Late: Team auto forfeits first map.
1st no show: Team forfeits current match, if in LB, then they are eliminated from the tournament.
2nd no show: Team forfeits current match, and is eliminated from the tournament.
The first five (5) WB rounds are best of three (3) maps. First team to win two (2) moves on.
WBR6 and WBR7 (Winner’s Bracket Semi-Finals and Finals) are best of five (5) maps. First team to win three (3) moves on.
Loser’s Bracket rounds 1-8 are best of three (3) maps. First team to win two (2) moves on.
Loser’s Bracket Rounds 9-Finals are best of five (5) maps. First team to win three (3) moves on.
Scores must be reported WITH ALL MAP SCORES, BY BOTH TEAMS, within 15 minutes of the scheduled match completion. If your team fails to report the score, the opponents report will be accepted with no dispute possible. Scheduled match completion is 75 minutes after scheduled match start for a bo3, and 90 minutes after scheduled match start for a bo5.
Additional Roster Rules
- Once you register, rosters can be changed up until the registration deadline. Once that passes, no more roster changes are allowed.
- Absolutely no substitutes.
- Any player found to be double rostering will cause himself to be banned from tournaments for the remainder of the year, and both teams he played for will automatically be eliminated from the tournament. Please remedy this problem if you notice it before the event starts.
